Korg Announces New Products at NAMM 2024

At NAMM 2024, Korg announced a little something for everybody with three exciting new products: the KingKORG Neo virtual analog synthesizer, the Poetry digital piano, and the TM-70T handheld tuner with CM-400 contact mic.

The KingKORG Neo packs the legendary KingKORG virtual analog synthesizer into a compact 37-key synth. This newly compact beast sports full-size keys, new sounds, a vocoder, an intuitive front panel, and classic synth filters recreated through Korg’s XMT engine.

With the new vocoder, you can use your voice input via the included microphone to modify the sound of the oscillator, producing a talking synthesizer effect. The synth also includes 100 user patches, 3 oscillators, 18 filters (from vintage analog to modern digital), onboard FX, bi-timbral functionality with splits and layers, an 8-step arpeggiator, 24-voice polyphony, and velocity and release velocity sensitivity on its keyboard.

Finally, six sets of virtual patching allow control signals, such as envelope generators, LFOs, and joystick functions, to be connected virtually to sound parameters, such as pitch cutoff, letting you modulate parameters for even greater sound crafting flexibility.

Poetry is an elegant, Chopin-inspired digital piano that will surely catch the eye of classical music buffs, as well as piano teachers and students. Poetry features two distinct piano sounds: Chopin’s cherished PLEYEL and the Italian grand piano used in the 2021 Chopin Competition. With highly realistic keyboard action and tons of Chopin composition samples to play along to, Poetry will scratch that romantic-era Chopin itch.

Getting into the nitty gritty, Poetry sports the same keybed, main panel controls, and overall size as the Korg C1 Air but with a distinct set of piano sounds, a refreshed cabinet color with gold accents, and curved wooden legs.

The 88-note RH3 Hammer Action Keybed is premium graded and offers a highly realistic response for experienced and amateur players alike. The keybed sports four weight zones to replicate individual key weights more accurately, from the top note range to the bottom, just like a real acoustic piano. The RH3 keybed is also made in Kyoto, Japan, ensuring top-notch build quality and long-term reliability.

Demos of 50 renowned Chopin pieces are included with Poetry, playable with matching piano sounds, plus 10 extra demo songs. Every Poetry keyboard includes scores of 25 Chopin pieces replete with explanations and notes for students.

Connectivity is important, too, in this modern age of smart devices. To that end, Poetry comes with full Bluetooth connectivity for streaming audio and playing along, as well as MIDI I/O and two 25W built-in speakers. The newly developed speaker system, coupled with Acoustage Bass technology, provides a powerful and resonant sound to set Poetry apart from the competition in terms of audio performance.

Finally, the TM-70T is a handheld tuner ideal for orchestras, bands, students, and solo musicians. With a new Transpose mode, you can easily tune an orchestra using non-chromatic reference tunings such as B flat, E flat, and F. The tuner has a wide tuning range of C1 to C8, giving you plenty of latitude for tuning almost any instrument.

A Sound Out mode emits pitches via a loud, clear, and improved internal speaker, providing a useful ear-training aid. Visually, the LCD screen is large and sports excellent visibility with high contrast. Despite these features, the TM-70T is exceptionally lightweight and compact, and can run on just two AAA batteries.

The metronome section is robust, as well, with three tempo setting modes (Pendulum Step, Full Step, and Tap Tempo), as well as 15 different built-in rhythms, from duplets, triplets, and quadruplets to time signatures and BPMs between 30 and 252.

Lastly, the TM-70T can be purchased with the CM-400, a piezoelectric contact microphone that can be attached directly to an instrument for even more accurate tuning. The CM-400 is ideal for stringed instruments such as guitars, basses, ukeleles, violins, cellos, and more, but can also work well on many other kinds of instruments.
