When it comes to studio recording, there’s something about the sound of classic British consoles that musicians, singers, engineers, and producers just can’t resist. Aiming to give people more of what they want, Heritage Audio—already well known for its analog outboard gear—has released two new pieces of studio equipment, the HA-81A hybrid channel strip and the Baby RAM passive monitor controller. Whether you’re putting together your first studio or upgrading your existing setup, the HA-81A and the Baby RAM can elevate the sonic experience during tracking and mixing.

Heritage Audio Channel Strip and Passive Monitor Controller

The HA-81A channel strip combines a top-notch, 73-style preamp and a versatile, 81-style equalizer in a space-saving 1 RU chassis. The Class-A preamp features Carnhill and St. Ives input and output transformers for loads of character and up to 80 dB of gain to handle anything from vintage ribbon mics to modern condensers. In addition to the expected phantom power and polarity reverse, it also offers a -20 dB pad, an output trim, and three inputs—mic and line via separate XLR jacks and a front-panel 1/4" DI input.

The HA-81A’s inductor-based equalizer boasts four bands plus high- and low-pass filters, giving you a winning balance of musicality and flexibility. With the high and low bands offering selectable bell or shelving modes, the switchable Q of the mid bands, and 30 frequency selections, the HA-81A ensures that you’ll always have the tonal control you need to sculpt and sweeten your tracks.

Heritage Audio Baby RAM Passive Monitoring System

The Baby RAM is a passive desktop monitor controller that will appeal to creators working at home or in project studios. Being passive, it requires no power supply, it’s incredibly easy to use, and it maintains the integrity of your signal with sonic transparency and zero insertion loss. It sports two pairs of stereo inputs and outputs on gold-plated 1/4" TRS jacks, which can be set to balanced or unbalanced at the push of a button, allowing it to accommodate high-end or consumer-grade gear. The operation panel includes switches for speaker selection, mute, dim, and mono, plus a 4-gang, 24-step rotary switch to handle volume adjustments without skewing the stereo image; monitor with confidence knowing that what you’re hearing is the truth.

Like other respected Heritage Audio gear, the HA-81A and Baby RAM are designed and manufactured at the Heritage headquarters, in Spain. If you want to see them and learn more about them, visit the B&H website now!
