Musicians, producers, studio owners, and recording engineers looking for a powerful workhorse interface that provides eight high-quality mic preamps, top-tier professional clocking and conversion, and powerful effects processing will want to take a serious look at the new Discrete 8 Pro Synergy Core from Antelope Audio. This Pro version updates the original Discrete 8 by adding Thunderbolt™ 3 connectivity and improving performance—offering a wider dynamic range, even lower THD and noise levels, and more powerful processing that doubles the number of available channel strips.
Assume the Position
With its rackmount chassis and advanced connectivity options, the Discrete 8 Pro SC is ready to take center stage in your studio and help you create outstanding recordings and mixes. With 8 mic/line inputs, 2 instrument inputs, 8 DC-coupled line outputs over a DB-25 connector, 2 reamp outputs, a pair of monitor outputs, and a headphone jack, the unit offers extensive analog connections. The mic inputs feed discrete six-transistor preamps with phantom power, and up to 65 dB of pristine gain is available.
On the digital side, the ADAT connectors offer 16 input and 16 output channels while S/PDIF connectors provide an additional stereo I/O. Computer connection is achieved via Thunderbolt™ 3 or USB 2.0, and the unit can also operate in stand-alone mode without a computer. A versatile virtual patchbay and enhanced workflow features make it easy to route channels, add effects, create presets, and customize your recording and mixing environment.
Clocking and Conversion
With its updated converters, the Discrete 8 Pro Synergy Core supports sample rates up to 192 kHz at 24-bit resolutions, providing up to 130 dB of headroom. Antelope’s proprietary 64-bit AFC clocking technology provides a bar-raising level of detail to your audio recordings and delivers nuanced, highly accurate monitoring with an exceptionally wide soundstage. Sync other gear to the rock-stable clock using the 3 word clock outputs or lock the Pro SC to outboard devices using the word clock input.
Powerful Effects Processing
2 DSP chips and 1 FPGA chip are on board to handle the Antelope Synergy Core effects engine, which provides a vast array of real-time effects processing with imperceptible latency. An extensive collection of 37 effects modeled after classic and rare outboard gear are included and many more are available from Antelope’s library. Users of the Edge series of microphones can also take advantage of Antelope’s mic Modeling Engine, which offers a variety of vintage mic emulations.
The Antelope Discrete 8 Pro Synergy Core provides enough connectivity, conversion, and processing power to merit serious consideration as a professional-level studio centerpiece.
