Creating zooms to impress even the most staunch prime lens adherents, Tamron has just announced two new lenses for Sony E mirrorless cameras: the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD and the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2.
On July 24, 2023, Tamron announced the development of a Nikon Z-mount version of the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD. See original announcement below.
Covering an impressive wide-angle to medium telephoto range, the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 is even more distinguished by its bright design—at f/2-2.8, this will be the first zoom available for Sony E cameras with an f/2 maximum aperture at the wide-angle end. Perfect for working in low-light conditions and controlling depth of field, the versatility of such bright optics and a useful zoom range make this an ideal lens for travel, events, and general lifestyle shooting. It’s an advanced all-in-one zoom built for capturing a variety of subject types with the same speed and precision as a prime.
The 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 succeeds the highly popular version 1 of this lens but improves upon it with an updated optical design to suit the new range of sensor available in the latest Sony E-mount cameras better. In addition to optical advances, the lens will also sport a closer focusing distance of just 7.1", for a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7, for true close-up performance.
Additionally, both lenses will feature Tamron’s Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) linear focus system, which yields precise, fast, and quiet autofocus performance, and they will sport fresh exterior designs with updated ergonomics for easier operability and more comfortable handling. The lenses will also be compatible with the updated Tamron Lens Utility software, which enables customizing certain lens features, like button settings and focus ring operation, and updating lens firmware via your computer rather than through in-camera menus.
