FUJIFILM is redefining compactness with its new INSTAX PAL, a palm-sized digital camera designed to snap photos anywhere and print them later. This will be the first INSTAX camera that does not print photos itself—instead, it’s meant to connect to FUJIFILM’s line of INSTAX mobile printers.
Featuring a CMOS sensor and a wide-angle lens, the PAL is a cute digital camera designed to capture group shots and landscapes with ease. With its small size, this little guy will not print like other INSTAX cameras. Instead, the PAL connects to its companion INSTAX PAL app and prints from compatible devices like the INSTAX mini Link 2, INSTAX SQUARE Link, INSTAX Link Wide, INSTAX mini Evo, and the INSTAX mini LiPlay.
Because of its diminutive size, the dedicated app is an important part of the Pal’s functionality. The camera features a prominent shutter button, and the app enables remote and interval shooting options to capture in-the-moment shots rapidly. You can also use the app to record up to five sets of personalized pre-shutter phrases or sounds for a fun, audible component to your picture-taking process.
The app also features live view and editing functions, including filters, text, and stickers. And in classic INSTAX fashion, the app includes its own array of animations to transform sequenced imagery into shareable experiences on social media or with a QR code. While the app is recommended for transferring photos, users can opt for internal memory to hold up to 50 shots or a microSD card for additional storage.
A key design element, the PAL notably features an attachable ring that doubles as a viewfinder to help frame shots or even to prop up the camera for stable remote shooting. The little camera body also manages to squeeze in a physical shutter release button, mode button, flash, and a USB-C charging port.
Available later this fall, the INSTAX PAL will be bundled with a mini Link 2 and a 10-sheet pack of INSTAX Mini film, allowing users to start capturing memories right away. While the PAL will be initially available in a stylish pistachio green color in this bundle, we expect there will be additional camera colors and configurations.
Announced alongside the INSTAX PAL, FUJIFILM has also launched its latest edition of INSTAX Mini film: Soft Lavender instant film. This credit card-sized color film is a great complement to the PAL cameras with its soft pastel purple borders.
