Four New Roku Streaming Media Players Provide Lots of Features

Four new streaming media players from Roku have hit the market, and if you’re looking to start your holiday shopping extra early, this lineup is likely to satisfy most of the people on your shopping list. All models offer more than 500 entertainment channels, integrated Wi-Fi, and an HDMI output. Designed for first-time streamers, the 2017 edition Roku Express features an easy-to-use remote control with shortcut buttons to popular streaming channels, plus 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Full HD streaming, and 1080p upscaling from 720p. You can also control the Express with your favorite iOS or Android device using the free Roku mobile app, which provides voice search, casting functionality, and the ability to plug headphones into your Roku app-equipped phone or tablet for private listening.

Roku Express Streaming Player

The 2017 edition Roku Streaming Stick bumps you up to 802.11ac Wi-Fi and upscaling from 480p and 720p to Full HD. The included remote control has TV power and volume controls plus a built-in microphone, so you won’t need the Roku app or your mobile device for voice search, but you can still use the app if you prefer. It also promises enhanced processing power over the Express for faster channel launching and smoother HD streaming.

Roku Streaming Stick

The Streaming Stick+ takes your entertainment to new dimensions by adding not only UHD 4K compatibility and upscaling from 720p and 1080p, but it also offers HDR10 support to provide a wider color gamut and, therefore, more vibrant images for compatible displays and content. Its Wi-Fi range is extended compared to the Streaming Stick and Express, and is designed to provide smooth streaming at all resolutions with quick-launching channels.

Roku Streaming Stick+

The 2017 edition Roku Ultra Streaming Player steps up to a quad-core processor for smoother streaming, and adds a USB port for playback of popular formats like H.264, MOV, MP4, JPEG, GIF, MP3, FLAC, PCM, WMA, and more from a compatible drive. It also has a microSD expansion slot, which allows you to store extra channels. Additional features over the previous models include night listening mode and a lost remote finder.

TCL 6-Series R617 65" Class HDR 4K UHD Smart LED TV BH #TC65R617:

What is difference between the Roku premiere and Ultra? Do the have DVR capacity and storage? Also do they stream 4K?

Hi Dennis -

The Roku Ultra does everything the Roku Premier+ will do and offers a hard ethernet connection and HBO Go. None of the Roku units will record any content.  The Roku Ultra's extra features cater to niche use cases, such as USB storage, optical audio, and extra remote buttons for casual gaming. The remote also has a speaker to help you find it when you press a button on the box, which is admittedly a nice touch.
