If your dad is anything like mine, shopping for him can be tricky. After all, what do you get the man who insists that my “success and happiness” is the greatest gift I can give him. While I work towards those lofty goals, there are plenty of other choice Father’s Day gift options from brands like Apple, DJI, and Bose®. Here are some of our top recommendations.
One thing dads appreciate about the Apple Watch Series 7 is how incredibly useful it is. Forget about its stunning looks and brilliant always-on OLED display, the Watch is the ultimate multitool. This refreshed iteration of the Series 6 Watch builds upon its predecessors’ qualities just in time for summer activities. With it, dads can manage their busy schedules, track their health and fitness metrics, get real-time directions, quickly send terse, tonally indecipherable messages, and so much more. The Series 7 also includes a bike riding tracking function and is swimproof up to 164’ for the dad who is active—or would like to be.
Roku Streaming Stick 4K+
Another great gift for dad is the Roku Streaming Stick 4K+. With direct access to thousands of channels and millions of movies and TV episodes—including dad’s old favorites—the Streaming Stick 4K+ is an endless source of entertainment with a near-4K quality bump. This device only requires Wi-Fi and an HDMI port, meaning it as uncomplicated to set up as it is to use. If your dad is prone to losing the remote, the Streaming Stick 4K+ is also controllable through an Android or iOS smart device app, Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri. Basically, it’s the no-fuss solution for a TV-loving dad who despises subscriptions, passwords, and changing inputs. It might even persuade him to expand his show roster beyond Wheel of Fortune and the nightly news.
DJI Mini 3 Pro
If your father is any kind of flight fan, the DJI Mini 3 Pro makes for an excellent gift. The best mini drone in the world makes it easy for a first-time flyer to feel like a seasoned vet. But don’t let its miniature size fool you; the Mini 3 Pro is packed with many of the same features you see in bigger, supposedly badder drones. Some of those standout features include the ability to shoot 4K60p video and 48MP stills, tri-directional obstacle avoidance, and a class-leading 34-minute flight time. Additionally, this drone weighs in at around 250g, making it a reasonably quiet option for dads who are noise conscious.
Bose® QuietComfort 45™ Headphones
Speaking of noise: The Bose® QuietComfort 45™ are an excellent pair of noise-canceling headphones that allow dads to escape the everyday cacophony. Of course, superb noise-cancellation is only one of the many perks any dad will love about these universally treasured headphones. Other fan-favorite features include incredible sound quality, the ability to swap between wired and wireless use, long-lasting 24-hour battery life, and Aware Mode for dad to tune in or out as he pleases.
Like most of the items on our list, the Sonos Roam is many things in one. Part digital assistant, part high-quality speaker, part home automation facilitator, the Roam is a perfect do-everything device for even the most demanding dads. With the Roam, fathers can use voice commands to query the Internet for just about anything, including the weather forecast, sports scores, or the “name of the actor in that movie I like.” The Roam can also stream music and manage smart functions around the house, including dimming the lights or adjusting the thermostat. Or dads can make use of one of the Roam’s built-in digital assistants to complete personal tasks like managing their calendars or sharing photos—all with just the sound of their voices.
Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2
For the renaissance dad who loves to multitask, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is a choice gadget. The Surface Laptop Go 2 is lightweight and adaptable to any need from managing work tasks with Microsoft Teams integration to gaming during the train commute. This Windows 11 machine features a bright, 12.4" PixelSense touchscreen display with 1536 x 1024 screen resolution and thin bezels for sleek and beautiful visuals. To maximize its impressive versatility, the Surface Laptop Go 2 combines the powerhouse 11th Generation Intel® Core™ processor with Intel Iris Xe graphics, resulting in an all-around fast and sublime user experience. Dad will be thrilled by the ultra-smooth gaming, upgraded ease for exploring creative apps, and the ability to seamlessly execute more traditional tasks like videoconferencing and presenting. With the Surface Laptop Go 2, you’ll be gifting dad the ability to do it all.
WD My Cloud Home Server
One thing my dad values is his privacy. He doesn’t want to share his political views, his feelings, or any of his digital content. If your dad is looking for a secure way to keep his private information private, a home NAS setup, such as the My Cloud Home Server from WD, might do the trick. Like all NAS devices, the My Cloud Home Server connects to your network via Ethernet cable, giving you the ability to access, upload, and share data across multiple secure, permission-only platforms. In other words, your dad will have total control over his personal data and digital files, including the ability to access those files from compatible mobile platforms, such as a web browser or media player. No word yet on what my dad decided to use his NAS setup for, but if our most recent vacation was any sort of indicator, it’s mostly M*A*S*H reruns. Hey, no peeking!
Sony BRAVIA TV
If you or members of your family are considering going above and beyond this Father’s Day, I would highly recommend any of the new sets from Sony’s lauded BRAVIA series. Available in multiple size configurations, panel type, and image resolutions, the BRAVIA series offers best-in-class options for every type of viewer, including those looking for the crispest, clearest content in glorious 8K. In addition to the breathtaking image quality, the BRAVIA series offers a treasure trove of TV-viewing features, including gamer-approved variable refresh rates, Google-backed smart functionality, and so much more. This year, instead of a necktie or novelty coffee mug, consider getting your father a BRAVIA TV. It might not have “World’s Greatest Dad” stenciled into the side, but if you’re gifting him a picture this good, it almost goes without saying.
Transcend DrivePro 620
My dad insists that he is the world’s greatest driver. While I won't deny that his dogged ability to outpace and outsmart the GPS is impressive, I achieved my own peace-of-mind after I bought him the Transcend DrivePro 250 Dash Cam. This dash camera records clear and hi-res video along a 140° diagonal field of view to capture the entire road in front of you. It automatically activates during a collision and includes a snapshot button which safely enables the driver to take still photos while recording. This dashcam also features its own GPS system, meaning I no longer worry about my dad toggling between too many applications while he is driving. Additionally, the DrivePro 250 includes some of the more standard built-in features found in newer car models such as forward collision warnings and headlight reminders, making it an excellent option for a dad who adores his ancient car.
