R5: Designed for Professionals

Although previous mirrorless releases were designed for the everyday shooter, EOS R5 was designed for the professional photographer, with vastly improved image quality. But what really sets R5 and EOS R6 apart is their ergonomics. Additional dials and controls, including a joystick and an extra dial on the flagship R5, make operating these mirrorless cameras intuitive, while advanced high-resolution electronic viewfinders—perhaps the closest thing to an optical finder yet—unlock possibilities unavailable to DSLRs.

The Latest Imaging Tech for Superior Quality

At the heart of every digital camera is its image sensor. It simply can’t make images without one. The R5 and R6 boast new full-frame sensors with 45MP and 20MP resolutions, respectively. Aiding this sensor is the DIGIC X Image Processor, unlocking continuous shooting up to 20 fps and expanded sensitivities of ISO 102400 for the R5 and ISO 204800 for the R6. This imaging pipeline will deliver sharp, rich imagery in nearly any situation. Wedding, landscape, event, sports, studio, and many other types of photographers will enjoy the improvements brought by these cameras.

Blazing-Fast Autofocus

Rapid-fire photography and excellent video quality mean nothing if your image is out of focus. Canon has made its already impressive on-sensor autofocus system even better, with the release of Dual Pixel CMOS AF II on the R5 and R6. Stepping far above the capabilities of DSLRs and many mirrorless cameras is the ability to select from one of 1,053 points anywhere in the frame. Literally anywhere. Look through the EVF and navigate with the joystick from corner to corner and enjoy rapid, accurate focusing. Canon also added advanced subject detection, including people, eyes, faces, and animals, which uses deep learning to track all your favorite targets accurately.

Class-Leading In-Body Stabilization

Not only is in-body image stabilization a brand-new feature for EOS cameras, it is arguably one of the best around. Canon claims 8 stops of stabilization, which puts it at the top of its class. Stabilization gets better if you pair the in-body stabilizers with a compatible RF- or EF-mount lens. This level of stabilization makes it easy to shoot handheld video, as well as work with long, telephoto lenses while still capturing crisp footage. When combined with the just-announced RF 600mm and 800mm lenses, you can even realize the dream of handheld super telephoto photography.

Create Cinematic Masterpieces

While stills are the mainstay of the Canon EOS R5 and R6, they also boast class-leading video specifications. The R5 takes the crown with the ability to record internally in up to DCI 8K (8192 x 4320) resolution at 30p in a raw video format. Tack on DCI 4K in 10-bit 4:2:2 with frame rates up to 120p, as well as options for C-Log and HDR gamma profiles, and you have an impressive video camera that can challenge some of the best camcorders and even some cinema offerings when it comes to pure image quality. Even the R6 is no slouch, offering recording modes up to DCI 4K at 60p. All of this is possible without any crop, with full AF, and more.

A Step Up for 5D Users

With the R5’s spectacular image and video quality, impressive specs and a professional body that has dual card slots, you might mistake it for a 5D. But this is no 5D. It’s better.

Here’s where the EOS R5 and EOS R6 prove that they deserve your attention, even over the 5D Mark IV

Revamped sensor with more resolution (R5) or greater sensitivity (R6)

Class-leading 8K and 4K video options, with C-Log and HDR capture

Incredible speeds of up to 20 fps, matching or exceeding top-of-the-line DSLRs

A sharp EVF with high refresh rate that is the closest thing to an optical viewfinder yet

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with 100% coverage and advanced subject detection

Dual card slots, including one CFexpress on the R5 in addition to SD (UHS-II)

If you are a 5D owner looking for an upgrade (or a replacement), the R5 should be at the top of your list. It is completely deserving of the 5-series moniker. Also, the new RF mount is designed to work with your library of existing EF-mount glass. Through the use of Canon’s own adapters, you can enjoy a near-seamless transition to the latest Canon has to offer.

A World of Lenses and Adapters

The RF mount offers two opportunities: the ability to develop brand-new RF system lenses that take full advantage of the short flange distance and being able to use a plethora of existing lenses—say, EF mount—via adapters. Some adapters even offer unique capabilities. Canon has three to help photographers with an existing collection of EF glass use their lenses with a near guarantee that the experience will match that of a DSLR.

Standout Accessories

One thing to keep in mind: the EOS R lineup is part of an ever-growing system. This means new accessories, tools, and capabilities that get even better when select optional devices are used in tandem with the cameras. With the R5 and R6, there is a brand-new battery to guarantee performance, an optional Wireless File Transmitter, and a standard battery grip. That is far from all you can choose. Here are some recommended options.

Anyone getting any updates?

I ordered July 18th. After numerous emails (many un-answered) and the last email I received was on 8/29 telling me my order would ship the last week of September. Well here were are with September come and gone and my camera has still not shipped (yet I have an expensive CFx card, 15-35mm lens, and the battery shipped today, but still no confirmation when I will get my body).

And spent over a half hour on hold today, only to get dropped (and put to the back of the line, so on hold again now...

Very frustrating, especially with all of the B&H commercial on YouTube telling us you are here for us. What a load of crap.

In fairness, while it did say "guaranteed shipping", it did not say by when, and in fact, when it send my order would ship in September, again my bad as I assumed you meant this September and not next September.

Has anyone else received their shipments and when did you order?

Oh yeah, and I have my RF to EF adapter, so over $3000 is stiff I can use yet w/o a body.

Finally got through and now are telling me two more weeks before they get more, but very limited and unlikely I will ship in that batch. This is really quite ridiculous, both no ETA on what was "guaranteed shipping" when ordering and having to spend hours on hold to get any information.

Hi Kevin,

We are terribly sorry for the experience here. Please know that we want to ship the cameras as much as you all want to receive them. We are working hard, as is Canon, to get units out as fast as possible, so please bear with us. Unfortunately, extremely high demand on these releases as well as current global events are both causing unforeseen delays. Even when some information is provided to us sometimes that is not guaranteed and it makes it tough for us to communicate clear expectations. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and I hope that we will do better by you in the future.

I also received a "we don't know when" even though ordered in that first few days, too.  It's hard to believe that Canon can't project by now how many will ship and that B&H can't ask for that and share with people who have ordered roughly where they are on the receiving line / timeline.  Getting very close to canceling, moving on (lots of other good cameras on the market), and ordering from elsewhere.

I ordered mine on July 10 and received it today.  It is well worth the wait.

Thanks, Anthony.  That's encouraging.  Enjoy!

Just to provide a final update here as I did get some updates after this last post, some came and went, but finally got confirmation and a tracking # today that it has shipped and I will have it Tuesday. Yeah!

Thanks for your interest in the new Canon EOS R5 and R6. These cameras, the R5 in particular, are among the most high-demand cameras we’ve ever sold. As with every product we carry, we fill back-orders oldest first in the order we received them. The cameras and their respective camera+lens kits are queued individually so a customer who has ordered (for instance) an R5 camera+lens kit has no impact on another customer who has ordered the body alone. We have received shipments of both cameras (and kits) and hope to receive additional shipments during Sept and Oct. Right now we do not have enough information to share an ETA but we are in touch with Canon USA frequently and are as eager to have good news for you as you are to receive good news from us. Thank you all for your patience.

Hello, Kirk! Thanks for giving us an update! I notice you did say “we have received shipments of both camera (and kits)... hope to receive addtl during Sept and Oct...” does that mean you’ll be waiting till you receive more before sending? Or was that mainly to give us an idea of what’s in stock, how many more people are going to receive their things, and that others may have to wait till October?

Thank you so much for the update! I’m hoping for more shipments so we can all get back to having fun shooting :)

Still waiting for R6 body, ef to rf adapter with control ring, and 3x batteries.   R6 and batteries still say "new item - coming soon" while the control ring adapter says "back ordered".

I pre-ordered on July 31st and paid in full already with shipping/duty and exchange rate to ship to Canada.  Opted to have everything ship together so they better not receive an R6 and send it to someone who ordered after me just because another item in my order is still unavailable.   Start building that order already!

Sept 14 and still not a word of when i am getting anything i already paid for.   We are nearing the 2 month mark now.

Starting to lose my patience here.  Let's go...before we all start submitting for refunds.

I preordered an R5 an hour after the preorders started on July 9th and I haven't received it either. I just got an email today pushing my September 16 ship date back to the 22nd. This obviously doesn't have anything to do with BH but it still sucks.

I ordered mine at 9:02 on July 9th and got the same email today. Looks like we are in the same boat!

Oh wow

Can you shed some light on R5 delivery?  I’ve Been putting shoots off because two different sales people felt that it was likely I’d have one by end of September.  Yet there is still no word.  I ordered early-as soon as it went live and I’m really disappointed I still don’t have any information.  I understand the wait, but like so many others I don’t understand the silence.  No one can convince me that there isn’t someone who knows what’s going on.  No matter what the target date is, they need to say.  It’s not building anticipation anymore.  It’s building and angry crowd...

Hi, any updates on when we’ll start receiving our items? Is there an order they’re following? I pre-ordered (late) an R6 on the 9th of last month. It’s now 9/11 and I’m worried about having to wait another month to start booking clients. I can’t seem to find updates anywhere?

I believe it was previously mentioned there would be an update today?  Something more useful than "have not received a delivery date."?

B&H sent an email on August 4 stating "We will send you an update on August 17th." So, B&H, piggybacking off of Eric's comment, where is our update?? Please don't respond asking me to reach out to orderupdates@bhphoto.com, because I have (I did last week and still don't have an update). I ordered the camera over a month ago and still don't have any meaningful update from you. Even if the update is "you won't receive your order until November", that's better than keeping your customers in the dark.  You are a huge distributor of Canon - either (a) you truly don't have any information from Canon, which seems unlikely (you should be demanding they give you more info to share with your customers), or (b) you do have info and you aren't sharing it with your customers. Either way, this is not good customer service. Please give us an update ASAP so that we can plan accordingly.

We apologize for any delay. We are still waiting for information from Canon and hope to have a response in the next two days.

Even an email to that effect would have been appreciated. I was expecting an update yesterday as promised in the email and replied yesterday asking for an update (and still waiting).

Again, we are terribly sorry for any delays in communication. I will make sure to send your concerns to the appropriate departments. Trust me in saying that we want to get you your cameras as much as you want to have them.

I’m going to piggyback on them as well. I don’t know what kind of business y’all are running but no way the second largest canon retailer doesn’t know anything. Y’all are threading water and are upsetting a lot of people and loyal customers. I want to place a $1000 order and I’m solely holding off because of this fiasco with B&H. If I don’t hear positive news soon I’ll be shopping locally moving forward.

Did yours arrive yet?

The "Special email" was as follows

-----------------------------

Hello Spencer Rain, my name is Richie B:

Thank you for contacting the Customer Service Department at B&H Photo Video and Pro Audio.

I checked this back order and as of today, we still have not received a delivery date.

Please let us know if you require any further assistance.

Thank you, we appreciate your business.

-----------------------------------

So dont respond to everyones comments with a generic response of nothing useful. Get us a date

More information would be useful and much appreciated.  At the very least contacting Canon until they respond and sharing that with customers.

Thank you

I guess I’d like to understand why B&H advertising said “Guaranteed Shipping.” Isn’t that false advertising? Isn’t that illegal?

I believe that B&H  even don't know when is the next shipment?

If you have any specific questions about shipping of a R5 order, we have set up a special email to answer your questions. Please email orderupdates@bhphoto.com and we will get you a prompt update.

Thank you

This is such an annoying situation. Please stop with the wishy-washy responses B&H. No one cares about how excited customers are about the camera and how quickly it sold. What we care about is information on when the next shipment is. What we want to know is how many cameras did Canon actually send that those that preordered during the first few days did not recieve a camera. We all understand there is a pandemic, it's not news to anyone, but how did Canon start production on a camera months ago and not make enough cameras for more than a few hours worth of sales? No one is asking for anything for free here, we are not being annoying or unreasonable, we are asking for information that should be given. This should've all been planned much better. If there was going to be only x amount of cameras here followed by y amount there, shouldn't people know? Shouldn't customers be contacted with an update as soon as all the cameras vanished? And why force us to spend over 70 plus minutes on the phone just to be told nothing? That makes no sense to me. So not only do I blame this on Canon for poor planning but also B&H for not sending sending some form of notice and demanding better information from Canon. We should know what's happening. Again, we all know there is a pademic but please don't insult our intelligence. This rollout has been sloppy at best.

Thank you for the comments – we wanted to provide an update.

Orders for the Canon R5 have exceeded the number of cameras B&H has received at this point from Canon. We have only received limited quantities, and we believe the same is true for all retailers. We shipped our first delivery out in full this week and are awaiting the next delivery before we can ship any more. We do not have a firm date for the next delivery. The cameras are being shipped absolutely on a first come first served basis, determined by when we received customer orders with no exceptions, as indicated on our website. We began accepting orders at 8am on July 9th and began receiving orders immediately.

At the time of order, we stated on our website “Expected Availability – Shipping will begin Thursday July 30th -- Your order will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.”

We apologize that we are not able to fulfill all of the orders at this point. We are working closely with Canon as we try our best to get you your camera.

The launch of the new R5 has been incredibly well received and we know how excited people are to receive this new camera. We apologize for any disappointment. Please accept our sincere commitment that we are doing everything possible to ship your camera to you as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

The B&H Team

I wish this were true. I spoke with a customer service rep since I ordered mine as soon as the preorder button went live I thought I would be in the first batch....rep told me preorders started at midnight...and those that put in the preorders at that time got the first batch.

I ordered at 11:43 EST and did not get one, so you are saying you sold out in less than 4 hours. I dont believe it, there are people who ordered within an hour of the announcement in comments below who did not get one, so seriously, what is up with that? Ridiculous. As much business as you do, you ought to be able to get a true eta from Canon, get a real ETA, keep it and keep customers, very surprising crappy business, not expected from bh. What about all of the accessories we bought for the camera? Will their return policy end before we even get to touch the camera? Do the right thing, pull strings, get an ETA and extend our return limit on accessories you shipped for a camera we cannot use yet.

I ordered at 9:07 AM EST and did not get one - unbelievable. Very disappointed.

Yep - I was right behind you at 9:08... Hopefully you'll get a ship notification soon.  lol

Thank you

I ordered at 9:06 AM on 7/9 and also didn't get the camera. First batch must have been a very small volume.

It’s looking like that rumor on the Internet has more and more teeth. If it’s accurate, we want to see the next batch until November sometime. I’ll be canceling

Anthony, thank you for your comment.  We’re not sure what internet rumor you’re referring to.  We can confirm that we shipped a quantity of the new R5 this week to the first people who ordered the camera, and will continue to do so as we receive more from Canon.  Thank you for being a valued B&H customer.

Well, the word on the block is that Cannon will not be shipping the “2nd Allotment ” until November. Being one of largest Canon dealers in the US, its a bit disingenuous to tell your customers that B&H doesn’t know what’s going on with this delay. Please...

I want to second this notion as well. I have also heard that the next batch of cameras will not be arriving until November. Its very frustrating and I don’t believe a camera that cost at its lowest $4,000 would sell out during a pandemic.  This sounds to me like BH only got like 30 cameras and didn’t close off preorders. Now they’re going to have a lot of angry customers. @BH honesty goes a long way. Tell customers when they should expect their camera as this is some BS.

Thank you

Hate to be the one to say... i just got a hold of a B&H customer service rep, and he basicall told me if the order hasnt been shipped or filled then you wont be getting an R5 until they hear from canon about the next FCKN! batch! theyre all OUT!

>:(

Finally got my call back and told they don't know when it will ship. Very disappointed, both in not being filled, but also for the lack of communication.

I finally talked to them as well. What a complete waste of time. They literally told me when I placed my order that it would go out yesterday and if you type in “EOS R5 shipping“ in google it will pop up an ad that says “get yours first with guaranteed shipping!“ In addition, if you go to their website and try to purchase one it doesn’t say on back order or anything like that. It just says in limited quantities which is totally misleading because they know they’re not shipping them right now. All in all it’s been a pretty horrible experience

I thought these were shipping as a pre order? I've already been charged is this a scam? Just looked on Adorama and it says " Temporarily On Backorder Although this item is temporarily on Backorder, you can order it now and it will ship as soon as it arrives. Your card will only be charged once item is shipped."

Been ordering for years from B&H hope this is just a mix up, first time I've ever seen a a pre order not be filled? If couldnt be filled why would ther be pre orders taken?
